At PCC hand washing is a priority in our everyday routine in and out of work. We use it to prevent the spread of illness and to keep ourselves safe from cleaners we use every day. In May PCC was talking about how we could help other people understand the importance of hand washing and to inform them on how to properly do it.

After a lot of creative thinking and brain storming we came up with the idea to make a demonstration video! We immediately jumped into action and wrote a script and began filming! (You can watch the video in our website and Facebook page) But we also wanted to write something for all of our dedicated readers and fellow eQuality members out there and inform them on the importance and steps of hand washing.

-First we are going to share with you the 8 steps to proper hand washing.

-Gather all of your supplies; Soap, sink and a clean towel.

-Turn on the water and let it get to a comfortable but warm temperature.

-Get your hand wet to make soap easier to apply.

-Put the soap into the palm of your hand, about the size of a nickel.

-Work the soap into lather and do this for about 30 seconds or sing your ABC’s beginning to end twice.

-Rinse your hands thoroughly making sure all the soap is off.

-Dry your hands using a clean towel, using a clean towel will prevent putting bacteria back onto your clean hands.

-Turn off the running water using the paper towel as a barrier; again using the paper towel to turn off the water will prevent putting more bacteria back onto your clean hands.

Please be sure to always wash or sanitize your hands during the following situations:

-After coughing or sneezing

-Before and after eating

-After using the bathroom

-After being outdoors

-Before and after personal hygiene routines

-Touching your face and hand

-After work

-Being in contact with chemicals

Did you know??

80% of all infectious diseases are transmitted by touch.

95% of the population says that they wash their hands after using a public toilet. However when 8,000 people were monitored across five large cities in the US, they found the actual number to be more like 67%.

Many studies have shown that alcohol rubs are more effective than plain or even antimicrobial soaps, unless the hands are heavily soiled.

We hope that we have been able to teach you the importance of keeping your hands clean, not just for your health but for everybody around you. Clean hands is the way to be, here at PCC!
