As we all know, heavy storms passed through the metro area from the West beginning Friday. Bookending the storms was a total of 4” of rain. On top of all the moisture we’ve already received over the past month, this was too much for many of our crops. We continue to work the ground and replant where needed, and hope at some point we’ll catch a break with the weather. However, the thunderstorms are ahead of us now.

One thing that loved the rain was our newly planted Apple trees. These trees went in late because we were waiting for the ground to be right. Our Executive Director Mona Patterson and some family members came out to help the crew put in nearly 70 trees last Thursday. After the trees were planted, the rains came that night. As of this Monday, our tress have green leaves!

We now need the heat. We need hot sunny days, therefore all of our warm weather crops will take off and start growing the way they’re suppose to. In the meantime, we’ll continue planting, weeding and aerating the ground in between rain falls.
