One of our biggest challenges over the past week has been keeping up with the watering. It’s hard to believe that with all the rain we received in the beginning of the season, the same rain that has prevented many commercial farmers from even being able to grow this year, that we’d be hoping for some. We’re on sandier soil than what we’ve been on in the past, which has less water retention, therefore requires more frequent watering. Storms rolled through our area early this morning and as the crew showed up to the farm, the rain stopped. Just in time for harvesting! We could see things growing throughout the day, things have really bounced as a result of today’s rain.

We’re starting to see some Zucchini and Summer Squash coming in, as well as Cucumbers. A couple boxes actually got Cucumbers instead of Squash, and those individuals were notified. The Broccoli is taking off, and full shares will receive some. There will be enough Broccoli for everyone next week. Sugar Snap Peas are in, everyone enjoy!! This will be the last week for Radishes, as they begin to lose their freshness about this time, and we’re done with Kohlrabi. We’ll be planting both of these crops again for the Fall. This will also be the last week for Mini/Small Onions, we’re going to lay off of the picking to allow them to mature to the larger sizes. Carrots, Beets, Turnips and Beans are on the horizon!
