Michael Johnson

eQuality Farms, Buffalo

Michael Joined eQuality in 2015 as the farm intern while studying Plant Science at the University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences. After interning for 2 years Michael became the Job Coach for the farm crew in 2017.

Michael grew up in Maple Grove and moved to Buffalo, MN in 5th grade. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 2004 and after briefly attending St. Cloud State University he joined the Marine Corps in 2007. In 2010 Michael’s unit, 3rd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment, was deployed to Marjah, a farming community in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. His unit, along with the US and Afghanistan governments, took part in the Marjah Accelerated Agricultural Transition (MAAT), a program aimed at helping farmers in the area transition from growing poppy for the Taliban to growing licit crops to support themselves and their community. Seeing the power of agriculture to affect people’s lives brought Michael back to the University of Minnesota and eventually to eQuality Farms where he enjoys continuing to improve people’s lives through agriculture.

Michael’s favorite part of working with eQuality is seeing the pride the associates take in their farm and accomplishments, and the fun and happiness our crew has working together every day.
